The “TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award” winning online real estate site may be little, but it is powerful. HouseLocator.com is a little known real estate site; however, with a considerable number of listings it is well on its way to rivaling its more popular competitors like Realtor.com and Yahoo!
They include a radius search and full addresses; however, their search features are basic and listed information is a little sparse. Additionally, properties were frequently listed without photographs.
HomesLocator.com consistently produced more listings than many of our other real estate websites. It came in third in our urban test, behind the #1 and #2 sites, and second in our suburban test.
They list almost all property types, but unfortunately, you cannot narrow your search specifically for condos, or multi-family homes. This may not be the best option for those looking just for condos or townhomes.
This site includes a simple, yet effective search function. You can search for homes by city, state or zip and narrow your results by price, beds and baths. Unlike most sites, HouseLocators.com includes a radius search on the front page; you don't have to go searching for it in the advanced features.
The advanced search is simply a map search. By selecting your state, HouseLocator.com will list the cities and how many homes are for sale in those cities. Although this site includes many of the basic search features, it would be nice to be able to search by MLS number.
HouseLocator.com's listed information was a little strange. Often it included things like beds, baths, sq. feet and full address, but it is up to the representing realtor to enter this information, so it is not always included.
There is also a section for the person posting the home to write a paragraph about the house. This information can include anything the seller feels necessary or relevant to the home.
Although this site has more listings and includes full addresses, there were many homes listed without photographs.
This is HouseLocator.com’s weakest section. They do not include many additional resources for buyers, or sellers. However, this site allows you to post your own house regardless of whether or not you're a real estate agent. In essence, HouseLocator.com caters to both real estate agents and those who want to post their home “for sale by owner.” Some listings include a map, but it was inconsistent.
This is a good place to start your new home search. The sheer number of listings makes this site a valuable resource to anyone in the market for a new home. It may not be ideal for those moving very far away, but the full address feature is great for those within driving distance of their desired zip code. However, we wish the site would require sellers to list more information about the properties.
